Have you been feeling like you’re not making progress in the gym? Or are you having trouble seeing your progress? Chances are you’re using the wrong methods to keep track of your progress. Today we’re going to talk about the biggest things you can do differently to see your progress.
#1 – Stay off the scale!
This is a big one. When tracking your gym progress you don’t want to weigh yourself everyday. Your body weight naturally fluctuates day to day based on the food you eat, water retention, and bowel movements. The biggest reason why you want to get out of the habit of weighing yourself everyday is because muscle weighs more than fat and since you’ve been working out your muscle mass is going to increase. Even though you’re losing fat your weight will likely increase or fluctuate due to the increase in muscle mass and swollen muscles after a workout.

Now you may be wondering what you can do instead of weighing yourself. We’re going to talk about that next!
#2 – Focus on how your clothes fit
Take a look in the mirror and you’ll notice that you look different in your clothes, the waistband may have a little more room, you may have to tighten your belt a little more than normal, and your shirt may be a little looser around your arms and stomach than it used to be. These are all great signs of the progress that you’re making in the gym and seeing this progress is going to help build your confidence and your motivation to keep going!

#3 – Don’t take your progress pictures too close together
Progress pictures are a great way to keep track of the progress that you’re making in the gym. However, since your weight fluctuates from day to day and results don’t happen overnight this makes it impossible to see results from pictures that are taken too close together.
Now how often should you take your progress pictures?

#4 – Spread out your progress pictures
When taking progress pictures you want to take them every other week or once a month. This will show you the progress that you’re actually making over time instead of the daily fluctuations that your body makes naturally.
